I would like to first post the parable in length before I begin my 2Sense.
14 “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants
and entrusted to them his property. 15 To one he gave five talents,
to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. 19 Now after a long time, the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here I have made five talents more.’21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.
You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here I have made two talents more.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24 He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours.’ 26 But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming, I should have received what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.30 And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
I am not going to change my format of duality in this analogy. I have weighed this parable in my mind for a long time and the connection to our spirit and gifts keep coming to the forefront so I hope you enjoy and share.
There are many definitions of talent but the main two are: 1. A natural endowment or ability of a superior quality. 2. A variable unit of weight and money used in ancient Greece, Rome, and the Middle East.
Talent for centuries has been on the side of a monetary result. If you possess what is needed by the masses those few benefit from the lure of using talent to separate themselves from any other person, basically putting them on a pedestal for all to admire and attempt to be. The pursuit of the best and brightest talent has always been fickle and if not followed exactly – the talented person is no longer the star. We all are guilty of falling for this because we want to be on top, be the richest, have the best and want for nothing while being admired. Bragging rights more or less. Society has not woken up from the dream because the word dream itself is not reality. Don’t get me wrong success is great but are you truly happy? Do you understand what talent means? The reason for the parable is because it applies to every living thing in this universe or outside it. Creation has given every part of it (us) talent. Our talent is our natural abilities, our natural mind. A part of ourselves that never changes, never ages, never dies and is enhanced when we take responsibility for it from the source.
Creation/Love/God/Jehovah/Allah knew your capabilities before your first breath and it is up to us to enhance that talent we were brought here to understand. Some might say this post is off base but if you look at the parable and put your self as the servant and your given abilities as your talent, which servant are you? Are you willing to put the time in to really take time out with yourself and become the best you can without malice? Love wants you to know Self because we are given these natural capabilities to help those who only see the dark side of having gifts. Hoarding, restricting and creating disadvantage because you have the means may feel good as you prosper but peace of mind is an aspect ignored because it cannot bring in the dough. We were given the keys to the Kingdom of Life and while living it is up to the servant (child of Love) to understand our duty. Love doesn’t put any one of Its creations above another, we all are needed but until we can realize our talents were given to be taught, meditated on, and equally shared then we are not meeting up to Love’s lesson. This is where we come to the last portion of the parable:
“But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.30 And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’’
You hear, see, and feel in our world depression, anxiety, pain, unhappiness, loneliness or inadequacy because we believe in lack. Whether it is where we live, our clothes, finances or significant other; some feel Life has it in for them because of the illusion we accept that those in the spotlight are better. Our abilities are equal because we open our eyes, feel our heart beating, and know deep inside what makes us happy regardless of what is popular. Being given talent is Love’s gift – how you choose to show gratitude is always up to you because you can either use them or not. Lemons into lemonade comes to mind but if you expand on that phrase, having the lemons is the gift for all to do with as we please, free will. Love can wait for you to see yourself; there isn’t a need to strike you with lightning. We were given the instincts to know better, our conscience. Even those who have moved to the depths of darkness and live completely opposite Love still are apart of Love and if shown will realize their worth. That can bring heaven here on earth because living the parable will bring you your kingdom.
